Leisure & Surroundings The name of our village “Tiefenbach” causes frequently confusion. For, not far from us, there is another homonymous village, more precisely near Oberstdorf, which is well-known through to the world wide famous gorge “Breitachklamm”. Our charming mountain village, however, is situated between Sonthofen and Bad Hindelang on the southern slope of a little plateau at a height of about 900 metres with a wide breathtaking view over the mountains of Upper Algovia.
Though being situated far from any hustle and bustle, our house is a good starting point for excursions in any direction: the town of Oberstdorf and the “Kleinwalsertal” in the south, the Lake Constance with the Isle of Mainau and the town of Lindau in the west, the “royal corner” near Füssen with King Ludwig`s “fairy tale castles” in the east and the “Algovian metropolis” of Kempten in the north. The possibilities for excursions and for leisure activities are nearly unlimited. Tourist sightsBreitachklamm (gorge)
The gorge “Breitachklamm” between Oberstdorf and the “Kleinwalsertal” is one of the most spectacular natural sights in Algovia, given its partly overhanging rock faces of a height of almost 100 metres, from where the water cascades down over rock ledges with a thunderous noise, creating a spray of finest drops, which reflect the sunlight, before finally gathering in deep swirling basins.

The ski jump “Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze” is in the “Stillachtal” (Birgsautal) near Oberstdorf. Today, it is the second largest ski jump of the world with its “hillsize” of 213 metres and a record jump of 225.5 metres.
Given the cantilever construction of prestressed concrete of its tower, it is also called by the local population “The Leaning Tower of Oberstdorf”. Until today the ski jump with its unique architecture, being only supported by anchors in the rocky ground beside the take-off table, is considered a masterpiece of structural engineering. It was built by the architect Claus-Peter Horle from Oberstdorf.

here Castle of “Neuschwanstein”
It was the King Ludwig II. of Bavaria who had the castle of “Neuschwanstein” built at the village of Schwangau close to the town of Füssen in Algovia. It is the most famous of his castles and one of the major tourist sights of Germany. Its architecture and the furnishings of the interior constitute an utmost exaltation of the historicism and the eclecticism of the 19th century. Therefore it is frequently called “fairy tale castle” in the tourist sector. In the immediate neighbourhood there is also the castle of “Hohenschwangau”.

Cable car “Hörnerbahn”
The most modern six-place cable car of Germany leads to the world wide famous “panorama crest trails”. Sitting in the well-ventilated panoramic cabins of the “Hörnerbahn” you climb comfortably from 940 metres to a height of 1540 metres. Below, the green valley of the river “Iller” meanders from Sonthofen to Oberstdorf. The higher you climb, the more splendid becomes the view over the tremendous mountain range of the Algovian and Austrian Alps.
Around the summit station (sun terrace with loungers for free) there are not only steep and inaccessible rocks but also gently formed hills covered with wildflower meadows, the floral diversity of which is unique in the Algovian Alps.

The slopes, where are the ski runs of Gunzesried and Ofterschwang, have been used for generations by 70 % as pasture in summer. In this season the ski runs are covered with gentian, wild orchid, arnica and cotton grass and many other floral species. This proves marvellously that skiing doesn’t harm nature at all, at least at such a height.
For miles around there is nothing but unspoilt nature with extensive hiking trails in the wonderful natural reserve “Hörnerkette”. Having reached the peaks, the hiker enjoys a picturesque view over the mountains of Upper Algovia.
